54 health-groups'll get indoor games in Nepal

Project Background

Indoor games are a proven tool for developing children’s cognitive and social skills. They offer flexibility of place and time, making them highly efficient for learning. This project raises funds for indoor games as part of the flagship initiative Children Sustainable Education Literacy Alertness Programme (CSELAP) / Our Study Place (OrStdPlc).

Progress

CSELAP/OrStdPlc is steadily advancing. A 48week curriculum schedule has been designed, supported by a Facilitator’s Handbook.

• Week 1 theme: Importance of SelfDiscipline
• Weekly format:
  • 15 minutes group discussion
  • 10 minutes individual reflection/writing
  • 5 minutes short presentations
  • Peer mentoring: seniors guide juniors
  • Local examples for relevance
• Monthly showcase: Children present what they learned to peers and community members.

Local Committee members have completed two days of training to strengthen their role in guiding discussions and supporting children’s participation.

Challenges

• Climate impact: Rural families face shortages of grass for goats, forcing them to buy costly feed from town.
• Childhood burden: Children spend more time on household chores and livelihood activities, reducing opportunities for play and learning.
• Leadership gap: Local Committee members are still learning how to effectively facilitate sessions such as “importance of selfdiscipline.”

Looking Ahead

• Strengthen bonds among children through outdoor activities like picnics.
• Organize parents’ meetings and regular school visits to better understand children’s situations.
• Mobilize local volunteers and teachers to foster interaction and encouragement.
