Kanmani’s Journey from a trampled rose to a vibrant flower full of life and dreams
Fifteen-year-old Kanmani’s (name changed) life has been anything but easy. Her story is one of abandonment, hardship, and emotional scars but also of resilience, healing, and transformation.
Kanmani lost her father to alcoholism at a young age. Her mother tried to keep the family afloat, raising Kanmani, her younger brother (7), and her older sister (12) on her own. But one day, the unthinkable happened. Her mother left for work and never came back. Days later, the children learned the truth—she had remarried and chosen to leave them behind.
Suddenly, the three children were left with no parents, no answers, and a deep sense of betrayal.
They were taken in by their aunt (Chithi) who, despite her good intentions, was overwhelmed. The environment at her home was toxic, made worse by the constant interference and negativity of her mother-in-law. There was no school, no space for comfort, and no sense of belonging. The children were slipping into silence and sorrow.
Realizing she could not give them the care they deserved, the aunt approached the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). With compassion and urgency, the CWC intervened and brought Kanmani and her younger sister Shivani to Arias Home of HOPE (AHH).
Kanmani arrived with nothing but the weight of her past. No spare clothes. No smile. Just sadness in her eyes and silence on her lips she looked like a rose trampled by storms.
But the atmosphere at AHH was different. It was safe, nurturing, and filled with warmth. Here, she found what she had been missing: care, structure, and the emotional support she never knew she needed. Through counseling, kind words, and consistent encouragement, Kanmani began to open up.
She started smiling. She made friends. She found her voice.
Now, four months later, Kanmani is studying in Class 9 at an English medium school. She can read, write, and speak in English. She's a kind, respectful, and bright young girl with a heart full of hope. She dreams of becoming a B.Sc. Nurse, driven by a desire to help others the way she was helped.
From a scared, abandoned child to a confident, purpose-driven teenager—Kanmani’s life has turned around 360 degrees. Arias Home of HOPE became her safe haven, her turning point, her second chance.
Today, she blooms , no longer a trampled rose, but a vibrant flower full of life and dreams.
Dinesh’s Journey to Healing and Happiness
At just 14 years old, Dinesh (name changed) has faced challenges no child should ever have to endure. Losing both his parents to HIV at a young age, Dinesh was not only grieving the loss of his family but also living with the same diagnosis himself. With no parents to turn to, and rejected by extended family due to stigma and fear, Dinesh's world grew smaller, lonelier, and more uncertain.
But a single hand of help can change everything.
Referred by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Trichy, Dinesh and his younger brother were admitted to our orphanage in Tirunelveli. While his brother is in good health, Dinesh arrived carrying the weight of illness, isolation, and heartbreak.
When he first came, Dinesh was quiet and withdrawn. His interest in studies was minimal, and his spirit seemed buried under layers of pain and rejection. But slowly, through the consistent love, support, and care offered by the home everything began to shift.
The home manager ensured Dinesh had access to nutritious food, proper shelter, medical treatment, education, and, most importantly, emotional care. Surrounded by warmth and acceptance, Dinesh began to heal not just physically, but emotionally.
Today, Dinesh is studying in 10th Standard and has just completed his public exams with confidence and joy. He approaches life with a new spark in his eyes, studying enthusiastically and dreaming of a better future. The boy who once had no hope is now filled with purpose and resilience.
Both brothers now live happily with the other children in the home cheerful, cared for, and no longer defined by their past.
Dinesh’s story is a powerful reminder that one act of kindness, one shelter of hope, and one circle of support can completely transform a life.
He is no longer just a child battling illness, he is a survivor, a student, a dreamer, and above all, a child with a future.
HOPE foundation is very thankful to all for your valuable support . Your support is the light that turns despair into hope. Because of you, children like Kanmani and Dinesh are not just surviving they are thriving.
