In rural villages across India, children still grapple with formidable challenges from inadequate healthcare infrastructure, an absence of qualified medical professionals, and a shortage of essential medicines and healthcare facilities. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2020, approximately 70% of rural areas in India lack access to quality healthcare services. This lack of access to healthcare facilities profoundly impacts their health, with statistics showing higher rates of malnutrition, infectious diseases, and preventable deaths among children in these areas. Additionally, the shortage of medical professionals exacerbates the situation, with only one doctor available for every 10,000 people in rural India, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). These conditions hinder the holistic development of children, affecting their educational attainment and overall well-being.
At the heart of our commitment lies the endeavor to address the formidable challenges children face in underserved communities and improve their access to essential healthcare services. Our Health and Hygiene programs, designed to bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility, include a comprehensive spectrum of initiatives such as primary healthcare services, dental care, vaccinations, health awareness campaigns, and notably, the Bal Health Mela. These initiatives aim to empower children and their communities by providing health and hygiene education and services that have historically eluded them.
In 2023, our efforts have yielded significant progress in transforming the lives of individuals in rural communities. Through health camps, check-ups, vaccinations, and the provision of essential medicines and healthcare services, our outreach has positively impacted over 501,875 adults and children. The Bal Health Mela equipped 17,699 children with crucial health and hygiene knowledge.
From September to December, our targeted awareness camps have made a remarkable difference in the lives of many. Our Eye Checkups and Awareness Camps benefited 5,810 individuals, while Pediatric Checkups and Awareness Camps reached 2,938 children, offering them vital healthcare services. Additionally, 4,758 women received care and support through our Gynecology camps, and our Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Camps significantly promoted healthy practices among 199,665 individuals.
The health camps we organize, attended by 500 to 2,000 individuals at each event, serve not only as a means to provide essential healthcare services but also as platforms for education on preventive measures. This dual approach fosters positive behavior change and enhances health outcomes for the communities we serve.
Through these concerted efforts, we've made inroads in 2023, positively transforming countless lives and reinforcing our dedication to facilitating better health and well-being for children in rural communities.
