On March 24 2020, The Government of India declared national lockdown, limiting movement of the entire population of India as a preventive measure against the COVID-19. Respecting the national decision, The Desai Foundation, for the time being, has halted some of its programs in India. We will implement our health camps after the lockdown, with proper precautions.
At this moment, we are proud to be able to pivot and respond accordingly to the global crisis. In April 2020, we employed over 106 women from our communities to make hand-sewn face masks. So far, we have distributed nearly 40,000 masks to men, women and children in rural areas in India.
We will update you with our developments about our implementation plans for health camps in our next report.
