Keep 500 Sick Kids Alive in Crisis-Hit Communities

For sickle cell children living in crisishit and displaced communities, emergencies can turn deadly within hours. Severe anemia from splenic sequestration or aplastic crises requires rapid blood transfusion — yet in conflict zones, the systems that make transfusion possible have collapsed. Blood banks struggle with unreliable electricity for refrigeration, voluntary blood donations have dropped sharply, and hospitals lack the supplies needed to deliver safe transfusions. At the same time, makeshift camp clinics rarely have basic analgesics or intravenous fluids, leaving children without relief during acute pain crises.

Our project is designed to confront this paralysis of emergency care headon. With your support, we are partnering with hospitals and laboratories to strengthen blood supply pathways, ensuring that sickle cell children can access safe transfusions when severe anemia strikes. We are providing emergency kits that include IV fluids, essential analgesics, and crisismanagement supplies to frontline clinics serving displaced families. Through our mobile medical team, we will identify highrisk children early, stabilize them during crises, and coordinate rapid referrals to facilities capable of providing transfusion support.

In the coming days, once GlobalGiving disburses the next round of funds, we will also begin a radio advocacy campaign to educate caregivers on recognizing early signs of severe anemia, splenic sequestration, and acute pain crises. This outreach will empower families to seek help quickly, reducing delays that often determine whether a child survives.
