Help Us to Protect Sickle Cell Children From Waterborne Infections

By Elizabeth Elachi | Project Leader

Dear partners,

Waterborne infections are a major challenge in Northern Nigeria, especially in rural and displaced communities. For sickle cell children, these infections are more than routine illnesses — they can trigger severe crises and dangerous drops in hemoglobin.

Contaminated water exposes children to typhoid, cholera, and parasitic infections. Because sickle cell disease already weakens immunity, these infections often lead to prolonged hospital stays, repeated crises, and increased need for blood transfusions. Families who cannot afford clean water face repeated cycles of illness that interrupt school, daily activities, and emotional wellbeing.

Your donations help us provide preventive care, safe drinking options, and early treatment for waterborne infections. This support reduces the frequency of crises and helps children maintain stable health throughout the year.

Thank you for standing with sickle cell families who face these challenges daily.
