Give Sickle Cell Carriers a voice at Work

By Elizabeth Elachi | Project Leader

Dear partners,

For adults living with sickle cell disease, stigmatization often shows up in the workplace. Some employees report being denied promotions or leadership roles because employers assume they “won’t be strong enough” or “won’t live long.” Others are treated differently when they need time off for medical care, even when their performance is strong.

This perception limits their growth, reduces their income, and affects their confidence. Many sickle cell adults work twice as hard to prove themselves, yet still face bias rooted in misunderstanding.

Your support helps us provide preventive care that reduces crises and improves stability, allowing adults with sickle cell disease to work consistently and pursue career advancement. It also strengthens our efforts to educate employers and promote fair treatment.

Thank you for standing with sickle cell warriors in every stage of life.
