Four years into Russia's invasion, Ukraine's military families face the war on two fronts: the daily reality of air raids, displacement, and upheaval at home, and the weight of uncertainty, loss, and prolonged separation from loved ones in combat. Your gift helps these families through trauma-informed support groups, giving family members who carry the invisible weight of this war in silence a place to be heard, supported, and strengthened.
Ukraine faces a growing, overlooked mental health crisis among military families. Behind every soldier are spouses, partners, and parents living with constant uncertainty, prolonged separation, and the toll of having a loved one deployed, missing, or killed. Yet most mental health resources focus on veterans, leaving families with few options. Without support, this burden compounds, impacting well-being, family stability, and community resilience.
HUT provides online trauma-informed support groups for the partners and family members of Ukrainian servicemembers across Ukraine. Facilitated by trained mental health professionals, groups of 8-10 participants meet weekly for 8-14 weeks and are structured around shared circumstances: spouses of active-duty servicemembers, spouses of those missing or held in captivity, and parents of serving soldiers. This ensures participants are with others who understand exactly what they are going through.
This program builds the resilience of Ukraine's military families by reducing isolation, improving well-being, and strengthening peer networks. It reaches families across Ukraine, including underserved regions where mental health care is scarce. Participants rate satisfaction 4.75/5, facilitator support 4.9/5, and 100% recommend it. Women report improved sleep, emotional stability, and renewed strength. One participant shared, "After the meetings, I began to believe again that life goes on."
