Week Two: The Journey of Two Afghan Boys

By Patsy Wilson | Executive Director of Solace for the Children

A Glimpse...Terrible Injuries to Innocent Children
A Glimpse...Terrible Injuries to Innocent Children

Fourteen days into the April Challenge, we have much to celebrate!  Your generous support is making it possible for Solace to move forward to bring the next two children into American Solace Communities within the next 30 days!  As their story unfolds, we will share it.  Today we want to share the story of two boys Solace supporters like you are helping now!

Rahman and Hamid arrived on New Year’s Eve to embrace a new year and a time of emerging hope. Rahman suffered from extensive burns and though wonderful military medical professionals likely saved his life, conditions in Afghanistan simply don’t allow for a real return to health and function after such serious burns.  Hamid’s birth defect would have been immediately corrected if his family had access to medical services, yet at age 10, he was on the brink of death with no adequate treatment available.

Through the generosity of Shiner’s Children’s Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital, dozens of wonderful medical professionals, donors in partnership with Global Aviation Holdings and host families with BIG open hearts both boys are looking forward with hope!  Rahman has almost normal use of one arm that just a short time ago was non-functioning.  Scars that caused children in his home area to throw rocks at him are disappearing!  Hamid’s life has been significantly extended, and his quality of life increased dramatically! Never could you find a child more grateful to be alive and feeling healthy!

Solace is about building relationships.  Our relationships help us form partnerships.  Our partnerships are making a difference in this world!  YOU ARE A PART OF THIS NOW! You can claim a role in healing more than a hundred innocent Afghan children, bringing families and communities together in this unique recipe for health and hope and real peace!
