GBV Victims Transport required

By Bellinda Suleman | Public Relations Officer

Healing Hands Foundation is in urgent need of a bigger vehicle. We have 1 vehicle which is used for collections and distributions. We urgently need a trasport for the GBV victims to transport them to court, SAPS, Clinic, referal Organizations. At times we have a full house and the vehicle we have is busy with collections or deliveries and we must take public transport to the relevant departments and it is not safe for the women to be seen. Children of the beneficiaries are also taken to the clinic or schools while they are with us. They can be seen by their spouse or freinds and relatives of their spouse.Having a vehicle for this program will make a huge diference in the life of those affected by GBV.  We conduct many awareness campaigns in various companies to make people aware of what is going on around them and to take note of odd behavior in freinds and family or neigbors. By being alert, they may be able to save someones life.

  • About half the women murdered each year are killed by intimate partners or family members compared to only 6 percent of men. Vulnerable groups (girls, disability status, low income, sexuality) experience more violence.
  • In the European Union, 1-in-3 women with a health problem or disability report experiencing physical or sexual violence compared to 1-in-5 women without health or disability issues.

There are lots of options:

  • Tell your own story; listen to others’ stories.
  • Buy book about peace, kindness, reconciliation for a local school or library.
  • Help publicize efforts in your community to end violence against women, such as a Take Back the Night march or Domestic Violence Month in October.
  • Use social media to raise awareness about violence against women and programs working to end it.
  • Donate things to local shelters that they make need (blankets, towels, personal items, food).
  • Attend public forums about policing, public safety, changes in law, sexual harassment and stalking.
  • Give to organizations working for an end to violence against women
  • Call if you need help 24/7  at 1.800.799.SAFE (7233).

The world I want to pass on to my daughters and grandchildren is one without violence against women, one that’s different than what I’ve experienced in the past. It will take more than 16 days of activism each year to accomplish this, but we can take steps each day to make a more peaceful world.

Your suport can help change lives.
