Accessing healthcare can be especially challenging for Deaf persons when financial difficulties are combined with communication barriers. Through Healing Hands, DWAF continues to bridge this gap by helping Deaf patients access treatment, medicines, medical professionals and hospital services.
During our ongoing work, DWAF has supported Deaf patients in several ways:
Provided financial assistance and facilitated hospital treatment for deserving Deaf patients.
Supported surgical treatment for Deaf women, helping them access necessary medical care.
Arranged medicines for a Deaf child whose family required assistance.
Provided monthly medicine support to deserving Deaf individuals with continuing medical needs.
Facilitated doctors’ consultations, medical tests and hospital services for Deaf patients.
Helped eligible patients access subsidized medical tests and free surgical treatment through available hospital support mechanisms.
DWAF is associated with five major government hospitals in Lahore, enabling us to work closely with hospital systems to facilitate healthcare access for Deaf patients.
Beyond individual treatment, DWAF is working to reduce one of the biggest barriers faced by Deaf patients—communication. We provide sign language training to doctors and paramedical staff, helping healthcare professionals communicate more effectively and respectfully with Deaf patients.
For DWAF, healthcare inclusion means more than paying a medical bill. It means helping a Deaf patient reach the right doctor, understand and communicate during treatment, access necessary tests and medicines, and receive care with dignity.
We are deeply grateful to our GlobalGiving donors and supporters whose continued trust enables us to respond when Deaf persons and other persons with disabilities need healthcare assistance.
Together, we are working toward a future where no Deaf person is denied appropriate healthcare because of financial or communication barriers.
