According to the United Nations, child labor has almost halved since 2000, yet over 138 million children remain in labor worldwide. On June 12, Taller de Vida (TdV), MADRE’s local partner in Colombia, joined advocates around the world in observing “Red Card to Child Labor,” the 2026 World Day Against Child Labor campaign.
This year’s campaign calls for the implementation of evidence-based policies at the national and international levels to prevent and eliminate child labor, including access to quality education, social services, and sustainable livelihoods for families. In Colombia, where poverty, displacement, violence, and armed conflict can place children at risk, these protections are especially urgent.
Since 1994, TdV has worked alongside children, families, educators, and communities to address the conditions that can push children into labor and other forms of exploitation. . With support from your donations, TdV provides psychosocial accompaniment for children and families, strengthens community awareness of children’s rights, and equips schools and institutions with tools to better protect children and respond to the risks they face. By working together with families and educators to alleviate poverty, prevent violence, and build psychological resilience, Taller de Vida’s programs address the root causes of child labor.
On World Day Against Child Labor and every day, TdV is working to ensure that children can learn, grow, and thrive free from exploitation. Thank you for making this vital work possible.
