Our team recently wrapped Healing Base Camp Austria, our flagship summer program in the Austrian Alps, hosting 29 families over two weeks in the mountains. It's hard to believe this year marked the fifth year of hosting our program in Austria. Our organization and our programs have grown so much in this time. Our first Healing Base Camp was one week long, for eight displaced families, women and children who had relocated to various European countries when the full-scale invasion happened.
For many of the families who attended this summer, this was their first time away from the war together, and the first time in years that they could simply be a family, without the weight of daily survival.
The rhythm of camp is simple and deliberate: climbing sessions that build trust and confidence, therapeutic tools that weave seamlessly into daily life, and moments where parents and children reconnect in ways that the war has made difficult. Our therapy and climbing teams work side by side, each providing carefully constructed activities that help a family move from survival to thriving.
Summer at a Glance
Between our Ukraine program and this summer's work in Austria, our teams have now served 177 families across both locations in 3 months. In Ukraine, Healing Base Camp continues to run four sessions a month, a milestone we celebrated earlier this year. In Austria, this summer's program marked the first time that we hosted 15 amputees in one week. Just a few years ago, we brought veterans to our program for the first time, and now we are able to run a climbing program for a group of men, each of them with a missing limb.
Looking Ahead
As summer winds down, our attention turns back to Ukraine, where programming continues without pause. We're also continually working on implementing a program in the Middle East, and we look forward to sharing more as those plans take shape. Mountain Seed Foundation will host the Summit for Hope II Gala on September 19. We look forward to connecting with other purpose-driven organizations and individuals that believe in the necessity of healing for families living through war.
