Who are we ?
The Great Lakes Region of Africa Consortium is made up of eleven local non-profit organizations working in solidarity to support vulnerable victims of armed conflict and natural disasters. These organizations have taken the initiative to collaborate to contribute to the socio-economic recovery and self-reliance of vulnerable groups, including orphaned children, women survivors of sexual violence, widows, people with disabilities, refugees, internally displaced persons, and flood victims.
Our mission is to contribute to the rebuilding of broken hearts and lives of victims of armed conflict in the African Great Lakes region by giving them hope to become themselves, capable of working to take care of themselves away from armed conflict and violence.
Our vision is to live in a peaceful and prosperous Africa.
Our goal is to working in solidarity to support the vulnerable in the African Great Lakes Region (Burundi and DR Congo) .
The Consortium is registered with the Congolese Government as an NGO platform under No. JUST.112/DP-SKV/CA/8145/20.
The Consortium's areas of intervention are: Peace and conflict resolution, Education, Health and Nutrition, Trauma healing, Youth promotion, Protection and Food security.
Location of activities: Great Lakes region of Africa (DR Congo and Burundi)
Period : 3 months (April, May and June 2026 ) .

We conducted an awareness workshop on gender-based violence and distributed dignity kits to victims of violence in Baraka. Forty-five women received the kits, which included: a loincloth, a small bucket, perfume oil, three reusable wipes, underwear, laundry soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a bath towel . The victims were then seen by our psychologist and transferred to Baraka Hospital for medical care.
2. Security situation in the Great Lakes region of Africa
A large part of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo remains occupied by The M23 rebels are causing widespread fear in Bukavu and Goma, as young people are being forced to join the army . In the highlands and midlands of the Fizi, Uvira, and Mwenga territories, peace is fragile, and insecurity persists due to daily fighting between local armed groups like WAZALENDO, supported by the FARDC, and the TWIGANEO and ANDROID groups, which are close to the M23 . These conflicts sow terror and force people to flee to foreign countries and neighboring villages. Summary killings and arbitrary arrests are common, and thousands are forced to abandon their fields and livestock. Children are forced to abandon their studies to escape the atrocities. Without food or medical care, many suffer from malnutrition, and others die of starvation due to a lack of food and proper healthcare.
