Every night, 12-year-old Amina wakes up screaming after armed groups attacked her village in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Like thousands of displaced children and survivors of violence, she carries invisible wounds. This project will provide mental health counseling, trauma healing, child psychosocial support, and community therapy for 800 conflict-affected people in eastern DR Congo, helping them recover, rebuild relationships, and regain hope.
Decades of war in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo have left deep psychological scars. Children have witnessed killings, women have survived brutal violence, and families have been displaced multiple times. Many live with anxiety, depression, trauma, and fear but have no access to mental health care. Untreated psychological trauma fuels family breakdown, school dropout, social isolation, and continued cycles of violence across already vulnerable communities.
This project will provide individual counseling, group therapy, trauma healing sessions, child psychosocial support, community awareness campaigns, and training for local mental health workers. Amina's story can change from fear to hope as she learns to sleep peacefully again, return to school, and reconnect with her community. Your support will help 800 survivors of conflict begin emotional recovery and rebuild their lives.
Healing trauma creates stronger families and safer communities. By restoring the mental health of 800 conflict survivors in eastern DR Congo, this project will reduce stigma, improve children's education, strengthen family relationships, and increase community resilience. Trained local counselors will continue providing psychosocial support long after the project ends, helping break the cycle of trauma passed from one generation to the next.
