Bashar and his family, who migrated from Syria to Türkiye, faced many challenges while trying to build a new life. Having lost their home in the February 6 earthquakes and forced to live in a container city, the family later moved to another city. In the earthquake zone, they met Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization(ASAM) and received support, and after relocating, they once again applied to ASAM, stating that they needed support to meet Bashar’s special education needs."
With the support of the Asam’s specialists, the family was accompanied and referred to the Guidance and Research Center (RAM), where meetings were held with the guidance unit. Following the evaluations, Bashar was enrolled in the Primary School for the Visually Impaired in the city where he lives. This year, Bashar is continuing his education in the 4th grade.
According to his teachers at school, Bashar quickly drew attention with his interest in his lessons. His success in the Turkish course in particular has become a great source of pride for both his teachers and his family. Building strong communication with his friends, Bashar is not only successful in his studies but also sets an example for those around him with his social skills.
The family received continuous support throughout the educational process. In addition to the visits conducted to facilitate the child’s school enrollment, the family was provided with services in various fields, including psychosocial support, health counseling, and social counseling.
Bashar’s mother described their experience with the following words: “When we came to Türkiye, I was very anxious about my son’s education. We did not know what to do. ASAM guided us and made us feel that we were not alone. Today, seeing Bashar succeed at school is our greatest happiness.”
