Challenge

Turkiye has woken up on 6th of February with a powerful earthquake with the magnitude of 7.7 that hit 10 cities in South East Anatolia Region, namely, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Osmaniye, Adyaman, Malatya, Sanlurfa, Adana, Diyarbakr and Kilis. Another 7.5 earthquake hit the same geography in the mid day. In total, 2818 buildings have collapsed causing more than a thousand casualties, and leaving many without access to shelter in the middle of winter.

Solution

ASAM has mobilized its Disaster and Emergency Response Unit to provide aid to the the most vulnerable and affected segments from the host and refugee communities. ASAM calls on the global community to provide urgent support. The collected funds will be channeled to humanitarian aid kits, search and rescue operations and aid materials, dissemination of information and any other urgent needs that are unmet.

Long-Term Impact

The support will be lifesaving. The support that is provided urgently will contribute to saving the lives of thousands in the short and medium term. The immediate action will follow with the already structured protection activities as an additional support to medium-term interventions of ASAM and other humanitarian aid organizations and institutions.
