Greetings.
We are proud to report that the most recent pediatric mission has been successfully completed, despite the ongoing unrest in Northwest Cameroon that has severely restricted the activities of the Cardiac Center in Kumbo. The children flown to Italy for surgery have all been operated on and two of them, including the charmer smiling in bed below, have been discharged and are staying in a nearby guest house while they regain their strength and enjoy the new freedoms their healthy hearts now allow . Noe is still under post-operative care in the hospital, but should be released soon. Little Blessing is still in ICU, and her family would welcome your prayers for a complete and speedy recovery.
As always, we are grateful for your continuing support, and encourage you to share our story with your friends and families on social media.
Mindful of the traveling difficulties given the current unrest, the Management of the Shisong Cardiac Center organized a series of screening and consultations for people with heart-related conditions and postoperative heart patients in the towns of Bamenda, Douala, Yaounde, and Baham. This made it much easier for those needing care in those areas to seek help. The turnout was massive and we were glad to see so many of our postoperative patients strong and healthy.
Unfortunately, until safe travel can be assured, we have not scheduled any further pediatric missions. But given the continuing problems, support is more important than ever, since there will be a huge backlog of cases for our next mission. We are a "superstar" on Global Giving, and were one of their top-ranked organizations in 2018.
We put our trust in God to continue to protect and sustain us in times like these so that we may continue to be of service in 2019.

The June 2018 San Donato Policlinic Pediatric open heart surgical mission have come and gone. The surgeries commenced on Monday June 04th, 2018 with a total of 16 children admitted for surgery. By the end of Thursday June 07th, 2018, the team from San Donato Policlinic Italy working together with the Shisong Cardiac Center's resident team had successfully operated 11 children. This was a significant milestone for the Center and the families of the children operated, as they left the Cardiac Center happy and praising God for this wonderful miracle that had brought hope to the lives of their children. The remaining 5 unoperated children were sent home, some to come back in our subsequent pediatric missions.
While we prepare for the upcoming Pediatric Mission in September, the resident team continues with the open heart surgery for adult patients. 10 patients have been shortlisted and their surgeries will commence on Monday July 02, 2018.
We express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all who continue to assist the underprivileged patients undergo for surgery. Seeing the joy on every families face after a ursuccessful surgery, our greatest wish would be to assist every cardiac patient undergo for surgery but many of these children and adult cardiac patients suffer in agony and end up death without a chance at surgery.
We are proud to have been able to restore five young children and one adult to a full and active life during our spring paediatric mission, when we were honored to welcome ten members from the Healing Little Hearts team based in the United Kingdom and visiting Cameroon for the first time. As aIways, the visiting team worked in collaboration with the Shisong Cardiac Centre resident team to heal these six little hearts.
But, sadly, our triumphs are sometimes mixed with tragedies: one of the operated chidren died in the I.C.U, one of the patients died before she had a chance to meet the surgical team, and others were not able to be operated due to the limited time available for the mission.
We are expecting our next paediatric mission in June, when the San Donato team from Milan will return. If we are able to raise $5,359 by then, little Success should be able to get the long-awaited corrective heart surgery she needs. Please, don’t forget to like and share our fundraising page with your friends and family to help raise awareness.
On behalf of the Heart Foundation, we continue to thank all our donors for their continuous support and dedication which is saving and changing the hearts and lives of the young leaders of tomorrow.
