We are inviting people all over the globe to walk 7250km with us in August. Margie (founder & vice pres.) will be permanently relocating to Australia and this is the distance from Bangkok to her home town. All money raised will be used to help poor families living in Pattaya by providing food, housing, education, job training and health care. We will also be purchasing special needs required for disabled children and the elderly who have no access to government support as they have no legal ID.
In Thailand there is little social insurance and the assistance from the government often fails to reach the poorest of the poor who are illiterate and lack ID. Many families struggle to make ends meet and this has resulted in Thailand have one of the highest suicide rates in South East Asia. Hand to Hand provides support to families so that they do not abandon their children into orphanges due to poverty. We feed over 250 families every week as well as providing education and health care.
Hand to Hand has a wholistic approach to helping the poor which includes education, food, medical care, housing, job training to help skill unemployed people for employment. Without education their present and future situation is bleak. Without food and housing families feel they have no other choice but to abandon their child to ensure they are given the basic needs. Job training develops self esteem and hope as they actively make difference in their own situations and those of others.
Helping people to become healthier and appreciate the benefits of exercise in their daily lives improves physical and mental health. Through education of both children and illiterate parents we are providing a hope for the future with economic secrutiy and self sustainability. Children are raised in families which is important. Most of the people participating in the walk are people Hand to Hand helps. They want to help themselves and others by raising funds for the programs they benefit from.
