Shakirah is 17 years old and has spent the last three and half years living in the HALO Lungujja Home in Uganda. She will complete Form 2 and enter her second to last year of high school this year. As a background for you, her mother was a single parent and had a hard time finding work that made enough income to provide for her family. Shakirah became a troubled youth and was brought to the HALO home for care when she was just 14. Through a supportive environment, she is now a driven young woman with a gift of leadership and often leads the younger HALO girls in evening homework studies. Shakirah also loves to sing and cook for the girls in the HALO home. Once she finishes high school, she would like to attend college to have an opportunity for a better life and to become a contributing member of her community. Thank you for providing the foundation of a family for children without one.
