To provide rehabilitation services for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI), strokes and other disabilities, empowering them to participate in activities and tasks that are vital in life. The goal for all our rehab patients is for them to become independent and re-join society.
The World Health Organization estimates that only 2% of people with disabilities in the developing world have access to appropriate rehabilitation. Around 10% of Haitians live with a disability and the need for better care is urgent. There are very few rehabilitation centres in Haiti and we are the only one offering spinal care in the North, with a population of over 1 million people.
HHA will run an inpatient rehab facility for SCI and stroke patients. Train and develop the skills of Haitian medical professionals/community workers and families. Facilitate a medical outreach team to offer on-going support to discharged patients
The project will offer life saving and transforming care, which can have a huge impact on the development and integration of disabled individuals into mainstream Haitian life.
