Thank you for your support of this project. I am writing to share some updates from ActionAid’s emergency response to the August 2021 Earthquake in Haiti.
We appreciate you taking the time to learn about and act in response to this crisis.
In the year and a half since the tragic earthquake in Haiti, ActionAid has provided direct support to 10,000 Haitians, and we remain committed to providing long term support to all those impacted by this disaster. ActionAid’s direct support to individuals affected by the earthquake includes cash transfers, first aid kits, protection against gender-basedviolence (GBV), and psychological support. Our long-term response efforts are focused on preparing and training communities, especially women, on how to respond in theevent of future disasters, which proved critical in the first few hours following this earthquake.
ActionAid Haiti’s Country Directorlooked backon 2022 and shared about the positive implications of our women-focused approach to emergency response:
"If there is an accident, women have been trained to be the first to respond. You will now even see our women leaders providing first aid and support to elderly people in the community. Emergency preparedness is a leadership skill. When you invest in women as emergency responders, they are also viewed differently in their communities and families. They were once dependent on their husbands or members of their communities to tell them what to do in an emergency. But not today. Today, they are exercising their leadership and engaging in their community's development, in saving lives, and inspiring hope for others. This is a great reward of all the work that ActionAid has been doing in Haiti."
At ActionAid, women will always be in the front of action and response to humanitarian crisis in Haiti.
We remain committed to our communitypartners and now more than ever, your commitment to justice makes a difference. Thank you for your support and solidarity.

Thank you so much for your support of this project. I’m writing to share some updates from ActionAid’s emergency response for Covid-19. We appreciate you taking the time to learn about and act in response to this crisis.
The pandemic is not over. As variants continue to affect countries around the world, many more lives and livelihoods are at stake. The majority of those affected are women who are working in informal and insecure employment, often the first jobs to be cut in a crisis.
We know that long-term recovery – like rebuilding and restoring livelihoods - requires long-lasting change. Thanks to your commitment, we’ve been able support communities with an eye towards the future. Thanks to our long-term partnerships on the ground, we are distributing hygene kits, providing education on how to prevent the spread of the virus, and advocating for public services.
As the pandemic continues to evolve, your commitment to human rights matters more than ever. Thank you for your support.

Meet Ysnelle, a seamstress and mother of four. She’s also a first responder, trained by ActionAid to take vital steps to help her community if disaster strikes.
When the earthquake ravaged her country, she acted. Using the training and first aid equipment she received from ActionAid, Ysnelle checked on her neighbors and visited areas where homes had been flattened. As the aftershocks continued, she visited communities and provided guidance on how to rescue survivors trapped under rubble.
Ysnelle said it was a priority to get women and girls, including expectant mothers, into safe shelters because they were vulnerable to sexual violence, especially after the disaster. She and her colleagues made sure that there were designated safe spaces for women to sleep, gaining the trust of those who’d recently lost their homes. She added that it’s important to have women take part in responding to emergencies because, in the past, they have been sidelined, and men have often abused their power in those situations. Women leaders and first responders are driven by a genuine desire to care for their community and not by narrow personal interest.
Now more than ever, your commitment to Human Rights makes a difference. Thank you for your support and solidarity.
