Food For the Homeless in the District of Columbia

by Hindu American Community Services Inc. (HACSI)

HACSI and its volunteers prepare 4500+ for distribution to 10 Homeless shelters in and around DC. HACSI participates in this service about 21 times a year with 21 different groups of volunteers (approx. 500 volunteers). We also raise funds to meet the cost of groceries that are used in preparing the meals. By doing this service, HACSI is able to address the issue of hunger and poverty and help mitigate the sufferings in our own way.

Will help the poor, and economically disadvantaged people who have been greatly affected by the economic downturn and have lost their jobs and are unable to find employment. Also, those who have lsot their jobs due to health, illness or other unfortunate circumstances and have no means of supporting themselves.

Thsi project helps provide at least one good meal a day for the unfortunate citizens.

Long-Term Impact

Hunger as a problem will continue to exist irrespective of the economic situation. There is always a group of unfortunate people who need the support of the community as there is no one else to care for them or support them. Many of these unfortunate people are unable to work and thus have no means of supporting themselves. This is a very transient population. It is not the same persons who get help all the time. We provide over 100,000 meals a year.
