To talk about cancer is to talk about life

This past season, your generosity was part of the specialized medical care that reached a one year old girl from Oaxaca. Diagnosed with retinoblastoma, she needed a diagnostic study including the anesthesia it required to guide the right treatment protocol for her case. 

For 36 years, Casa de la Amistad has accompanied children and young people with cancer and their families through one of the hardest journeys a family can face. Our mission has never changed: to remove the economic, social, and emotional barriers that stand between a child and the full course of treatment they need, so that a family's income, home address, or circumstances never determine whether a child completes treatment.

That commitment shows in a result few institutions can claim: zero treatment abandonment. Not one child accompanied by Casa de la Amistad has been forced to stop treatment for lack of resources.

Behind that result is a comprehensive model of support, built over three and a half decades:

• Specialized medical studies and treatments that confirm diagnoses and guide the right protocol for each child.
• Housing and lodging for families who must relocate near treatment hospitals, often for months at a time.
• Nutrition and transportation support, so a family never has to choose between a meal and a hospital visit.
• Psychological and emotional accompaniment for children and their families throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
• Educational continuity, so childhood does not stop simply because treatment has started.
• Specialized nursing and care units for children with the most complex medical needs.

None of this is possible without donors who choose, season after season, to stand behind children they will likely never meet.
