Summary

In Nigeria, Zamfara and Borno States experienced severe flooding due to unprecedented rainfall and dam collapse. This disaster has displaced thousands of residents, destroyed homes, and severely impacted local agriculture, leaving many without food and shelter. Immediate humanitarian intervention is required to provide emergency food supplies and temporary shelter to the affected population. The goal of this project is to distribute emergency food supplies to 2,500 affected households

Challenge

The flood has led to widespread displacement, with many families forced to live in makeshift shelters or exposed to the elements. Food insecurity is also a major concern as farmlands have been inundated, and local food stocks have been lost. There is an urgent need to address these challenges to prevent further suffering and potential health crises.

Solution

To provide immediate relief through the provision of emergency food supplies and temporary shelter to flood victims in Gummi and Borno, ensuring their safety, health, and well-being during the recovery period by: 1. Distributing emergency food supplies to 5,000 affected households within the first month. 2. Providing temporary shelter to 1,500 displaced families by the end of the project period. 3. To ensure access to clean water and sanitation facilities for at least 3,000 people.

Long-Term Impact

The Emergency Food and Shelter Relief project for the 2024 Nigeria Flood will enhance community resilience by addressing immediate needs and supporting long-term recovery. It will improve food security, provide flood-resistant housing, and promote better health practices, reducing vulnerability to future disasters. Strengthening local governance and social cohesion, the project will also serve as a model for disaster response, advocating for policy changes and environmental stewardship.
