The “Association of guinea pigs breeders of Chirpued managed to raise 180% of the amount requested to reinforce their business: around USD 2.700.- instead of the USD 1.500.- initially requested.
This fantastic achievement was the result of the joint efforts of the members of the association, together with the regional responsible of SENA - the governmental institution that fostered the development of the association - and a group of young people in Bogotá which was deeply touched by the history of many members of the association and committed to help them to achieve their funding goal. This group, called Emoción Creativa, carried out different activities to communicate about the relevance of supporting the Association of Chirpued, and to raise funds for their project. For example, they made a video and disseminated it among their family and friends, asking them to support this project and organized a party to raise money for the project. As a result they were able to raise more than USD 1.700.-,
For its part Mercedes Ortega, the regional representative of SENA carried out many advocacy activities convincing many colleagues and other people to contribute to the project. In addition, the Association of Chirpued presented their initiative in different regional events and organized a volleyball championship and a lunch to collect money for their project. The sum of all these efforts led to the fantastic result of almost doubling the financing goal.
With the money raised the association will be able not only to change the roof of the shed, but also make other improvements to the shed. This will enable them to increase production, thus improving the incomes of the 55 families involved in the project. They will also transfer their community work practices to other association, so that they can also benefit from semi-technified breeding of guinea pigs. In this way, young people won´t be forced to move to other places looking for jobs.
