The GSBA Scholarship Fund supports Washington State lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) and Allied students who exhibit leadership potential, demonstrate strong academic abilities and who are actively involved in school and community organizations. We realizes that today's students are tomorrow's leaders and are committed to supporting our community's future leaders by providing financial resources, role-modeling and hope to outstanding LGBT students.
The cost of a college education is rising at an alarming rate. Financial aid is shrinking. College graduate are faced with overwhelming student loan debt. And still today, in 2016, LGBTQ and Allied students still have little to no family support. These students have the ability and drive to be successful in college, but do not have the money or support to go to college.
The most direct and impactful support we offer to our scholars are educational scholarships that range from approximately $5,000-$10,000 annually. These scholarship funds can be used immediately for tuition and fees at any institution of higher education. The Scholarship Fund supports students enrolled at trade schools, community colleges and public and private college and universities. Beyond money, we provide hope and support to our often disenfranchised LGBTQ and Allied students.
The effect of investing in the next generation of leaders goes behind the individual scholar and increases the well-being and productivity of the entire community. Our scholars represent a diverse group of students who have dreams of making our community and the world a better place; and each of them possess the skills, talents and dedication to make those dreams a reality. We expect to fund 55 scholars per year.
