Since being introduced in Pakistan more than a decade ago, baseball has served as a vehicle for cultural exchange, tolerance, and youth development. The sport has grown in popularity with both boys and girls, at youth, college, and professional levels. However, financial limitations and cricket as the dominant sport has slowed the growth of the baseball despite growing interest. This project will enable Pitch In For Baseball to help more Pakistani boys and girls play baseball.
Since being introduced in Pakistan in 1992, baseball has served as a vehicle for cultural exchange, tolerance, and youth development. In 2013, a high school team traveled to Japan for baseball and cultural exchange programs. This November, Pakistan will host the 11th West Asia Baseball Cup. However, financial limitations and cricket being the dominant sport has slowed the growth of the baseball despite the increased interest. Funds will enable Pakistani boys and girls play baseball.
At present in Pakistan, many children playing baseball are doing so without the proper equipment such as the appropriate size bats and gloves in addition to helmets and other protective gear. Others want to play but there isn't enough equipment and opportunities. Pitch In For Baseball provides the baseball and softball equipment so that playing is safe and accessible. Pure play and sport present a positive alternative to the other messages and activities being offered.
Plain and simple, more equipment will mean more children will have the chance to play. In addition to the obvious health benefits that a more active lifestyle will bring, the kids playing will build self-esteem and learn valuable life skills, such as teamwork, sportsmanship and dealing with adversity. These are life skills that they will have for the rest of their lives.
