Farmers are highly vulnerable to natural calamities such as typhoons and droughts which damage their crops, impacting their livelihood and food security. Traditional crop varieties often struggle to survive in these conditions, leaving farmers with minimal yield and recovery options. This project will provide them with climate-resilient seeds to help them rebuild and adapt. Your donation will fund seed provision and distribution, empowering farmers to recover and ensure food security.
Climate change threatens food security in terms of availability, access, utilization, and stability. The Philippines faces severe losses from natural disasters, with damages reaching Php 463 billion in the past decade. Droughts, intensified by El Nino, and excessive rainfall from La Nina, significantly impact farming communities. Purchase of climate-resilient seeds that can help farmers restart their farms can be too costly for smallholder farmers.
This project will provide calamity-affected farmers with grow kits containing climate-resilient seeds and materials to restart their farms. This will help improve their chances of a successful harvest even in tough weather conditions, helping farmers continue producing food to support their families and contribute to food security. Empowered to keep producing food, farmers will become key to building community resilience against climate impacts.
This project supports a resilient agricultural sector by equipping farmers to face future climate challenges. Climate-resilient seeds will help them adapt and prepare for shifting weather patterns. Over time, these efforts will foster a new generation of farmers skilled in climate adaptation, contributing to long-term food security and economic stability in vulnerable communities.
