This project aims to combat desertification, enhance biodiversity, and improve local livelihoods by planting one million trees over a period of four years. By involving local communities and utilizing sustainable practices, we aim to create a lasting positive impact on the environment and the socio-economic conditions in Zamfara State.
Zamfara State, located in the northwestern region of Nigeria, is severely affected by desertification and deforestation, which have led to significant environmental degradation. The consequences include reduced agricultural productivity, loss of biodiversity, and increased vulnerability to climate-related disasters.
The Green Zamfara Initiative will combat desertification by planting one million trees, stabilizing soil, reducing erosion, and restoring degraded lands. It enhances biodiversity by reintroducing native species, creating habitats for wildlife. The project improves local livelihoods by creating jobs, training in agroforestry, and providing economic benefits from non-timber forest products.
