In 2019 and 2021, Green Mountain Conservancy acquired and conserved 913 acres of forest land in southeastern Vermont, now known as the Deer Run Nature Preserve. The GMC stewardship team's management of this Preserve insures its ongoing biodiversity, carbon sequestration, protection of key wildlife corridors and species that are in need of protection, safeguarding a key watershed and over 2.5 miles of West River shoreline. In addition, GMC is committed to insuring that the public can continue to use this land for education and recreation while appreciating and benefitting from its many aesthetic values.
GMC is continuing its efforts to acquire and conserve lands, address environmental concerns, educate the public and provide people with the opportunity to learn about the natural world and experience all of nature. It is working with area residents and regional and state organizations to acquire and protect more large parcels in keeping with the state's commitment to conserve 30% of the land in Vermont by the 2030, a critical effort to provide resilience against the effects of climate change. This acquisition fund allows us to continue this vital work.
