This project will establish a sustainable, community-owned nursery enterprise that contributes to landscape restoration, climate change mitigation, and the creation of green livelihoods for youths and women in the Northwest Region. This project tackles deforestation,unemployment, and environmental degradation by expanding seedling production from 10,000 to 60,000 while requiring 400 youths and women with certified skills in nursery management and green entrepreneurship.
Communities in the Northwest Region of Cameroon are facing a deepening environmental and socioeconomic crisis that is directly impacting livelihoods, food security, and long-term resilience.Climate change is intensifying these challenges. Communities that depend heavily on natural resources are particularly exposed, with limited capacity to adapt these changing conditions.
The project will expand GRACARO's existing tree nursery to significantly increase the production of high-quality seedlings from approximately 10,000 to 60,000 annually.To tackle water scarcity, the project will prioritize planting trees in critical watershed and catchment zones. strengthen climate resilience by promoting climate-smart agroforestry practices. Over 400 youths and women will receive practical training in nursery management, tree planting, and green entrepreneurship.
The project will strengthen community engagement through outreach and awareness activities, encouraging local ownership of environmental restoration efforts.
