This project will enable a Kilifi-based grassroots organization serving over 8,000 girls annually, to achieve energy independence, lower costs, and champion sustainability by funding solar panels for the community program.
Kenya's ambitious goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030 promises a brighter future, but coastal communities like Kilifi remain in the dark. Lack of grid access forces reliance on expensive fossil fuels like woodfuel, even though the region boasts exceptional solar potential. This project steps in, showcasing solar power as a cost-saving, sustainable alternative that can empower underserved communities, improve living standards, and unlock economic opportunities.
This project seeks to enable MTG to harness green energy, reduce power costs and redeploy the savings towards increasing the reach towards the community projects. Additionally, this will showcase how green energy can lower household costs, improve energy security, reduce the carbon footprint and improve the overall well-being of the local community.
Through football (soccer), MTG has empowered over 70,000 girls and young women and seeks to increase the number to over 100,000 in the next three years. In addition, the project seeks to champion the use of green energy as an alternative to the currently available energy sources, aiming towards energy independence in the community, and increasing household incomes through savings achieved.
