Among the most significant campaigns this year was the campaign to prevent the expansion of polluting industry in Haifa Bay. In recent months, Green Course's volunteer activities culminated in field work, media appearances and impact on the recognition of the problem of pollution in Haifa as a national problem among decision-makers. We were able to dramatically raise public awareness of the high morbidity caused by this pollution among the local population and delay the plans to expand the refineries and the establishment of "Northern Land" -a new petrochemical compound. These plans are now being discussed at the National Council following appeals Green Course took part in, and today there is broad understanding that the state of pollution in the Haifa area requires treatment and not further expansion of the polluters.
