The expedition seeks to stimulate an environmentally conscious Zimbabwe by addressing the litter crisis through litter education/awareness campaigns in Schools and the community at large. Currently more than 80 % of drainage systems in major towns is blocked with litter resulting in serious flooding during rainy season, disease outbreaks and loss of human life. Majority our citizens have a negative attitude and most of them dispose of litter in wrong places.
The level of littering has increased across all institutions in the Zimbabwe coupled with an economic meltdown hence the city fathers' litter control mechanics can no longer copy with continuous littering and refuse pile-up noted in the Central Business District, Schools and residential areas countrywide. Over 70% of adults (above 18 years) in Zimbabwe have a negative attitude towards litter and less than 5% of Schools in Zimbabwe have a comprehensive litter education
We will be visiting 5 schools per week and 20 schools per month in Harare for the next 3 years, educating teachers and schools kids about litter hazards, to clearly paint the picture that it's everyone's responsibility with the theme " a litter free Zimbabwe begins with you" litter art, and setting up 5 bins at each school for separation of litter from source . Apart from that we have designed litter education video aides to be used by litter monitors to educate residents in communities
The projects intends to use Harare as a model for the next 3 years , after that we audit our progress with regards to littering litter change in schools and communities, the impact of our program with regards to the littering levels and recycling. After that we intend to setup a recycling plant to plastic in 8 other provinces of Zimbabwe and to visit the other 8500 Schools both Primary and Secondary schools in the other provinces of Zimbabwe with the same education campaign
