Preparation for Phase 3 and 4
By Navin Rahman | Founder and President
Due to the recent political instability and violence in the country, we were unable to do much in the past few months. Things have calmed down a little bit at the moment and we are hoping to get some work done this summer.
We are currently doing spot selections for Phase 3 and 4. By the end of July we hope to have set up the trashcans in those areas. We are also looking forward to present at different universities in Dhaka to create awareness among youth, spread the message of our work and recruit more volunteers. The IT team is currently working on creating our official website.
Our new video on the current project is now up and running on Youtube. Please feel free to check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXFr4JHbtwk

Initiation of Trashcan Setup and anti-littering campaign

Dear Donor,
We are happy to inform you that the initiation of trashcan setup has begun. 10 trashcans were set up in the Gulshan Avenue between September to October. They were made according to the finalized design and chained to poles to prevent theft. Dhaka City Corporation, the government body, we are working with, has been regularly emptying the trash while Green Channel is responsible for the maintenance of the trashcans. We also held an anti-littering campaign, where about 200 volunteers participated to make the pedestrians and the general public more aware of the setup and to promote environmental friendliness. We have had many good responses through this campaign. Some people appreciated the initiative, some expressed their pessimism for any change. But the overall result has been good. People have been using the trash cans regularly and the streets are a lot cleaner. Our volunteers did a clean up in the surrpunding area and also went around to the closest local shops, informing them of the setup and we hear, the bins have been quite helpful and useful for these local shoppkeepers and street vendors as well. The initiation was a success. Now we are planning on gradually expanding it to all of North Dhaka first and then to South Dhaka. The master plan is to cover all of Dhaka City.
Thank you all for the support. This project has shown a lot of promise and I am indeed very eager to see a litter free Dhaka city sometime soon. So keep supporting us, spreading the word to friends and family and keep using the bins to keep the city clean.
