We are now coming to the end of the school year once more and I would like to share what some of the children who have been the beneficiaries of the project since the beginning of this school year have told us (their names have been changed to protect their privacy).
Mara, a 4th year student says “I really like the ACER activities; the stories are very funny, and the staff tell them in a really cool way. My favourite activity is the one where they use objects to tell the story and then we do stamping activities afterwards. Once, they read a book, and I asked my mum to buy it because I thought the story was so good, then I read it with her at home.”
When asked about what he thought of the teenagers who deliver the activities (always a boy and a girl), Jefferson, a year 5 student had this to say“They're really awesome! They always play, chat, and bring really fun stories. I think what they do is really cool. When I grow up, I want to do that too—work by playing and telling stories.” It is really inspiring to see this kind of comment because it really does happen, some of our teenagers delivering the programme have told us about how they were beneficiaries of the project in elementary school.
When asked about what activities they most like, Leonardo, a year 3 student told us “It’s great when they arrive just as the teacher is giving us schoolwork because we stop the teacher’s activity to do ACER instead. I really like the stories from Africa, because even though they’re from another place, the things they talk about are very similar to what we experience here.” Julia from year 1 says “I love the puppet theatre! The puppets are so funny and entertaining. I also really enjoy the origami activities we do. One time, they taught us how to make a flower, and I gave it to my mum. She was so happy.” And when she was asked about how she feels about the project she exclained “I love it so much! When I see the staff, I already ask if there’s going to be an activity in my class, and then I go around telling everyone in my class so we can behave and listen to the story and have fun during the activity.”
We would like to tahnk you for your continued support through this year and I hope that you have got a feel for how much it means to the children who have been receiving the project twice a month in their schools all through the academic year.
