This project will contribute to constructing a school of excellence for girls in Golbo village in Moyale constituency, Marsabit County, Kenya. The school will be the only school of excellence in Kenya's entire northern region & will educate 450 girls drawn from three neighbouring counties of Marsabit, Mandera & Wajir. In addition to providing quality education for bright pastoralist girls, the school will foster peace & cohesion amongst the pastoralist communities in northern Kenya.
There are currently no secondary schools serving Golbo Ward's residents in Moyale Constituency, Marsabit County, Kenya. Children from Golbo ward travel a long distance to seek secondary education. The existing schools in the region are poorly equipped & over the years many schools were constructed based on clan consideration rather than need & therefore fostering disunity amongst the residents of the region. Thus education rather than unifying the residents have contributed to the disunity.
Professionals & community groups from Golbo Ward started an initiative to construct two schools of excellence, Golbo Boys & Golbo Girls Secondary Schools. They donated 30 acres of land & started a fundraising campaign involving the local residents, business & professionals groups & leaders. The schools will educate 900 children from Golbo & the two neighbouring counties of Mandera & Wajir. The two Schools will contribute to the improvement of the quality of education provision in the region.
The project will support the construction of a centre of excellence which will provide quality education for 450 girls from pastoralists communities in Northern Kenya. The centre of excellence will also support government schools to improve their teaching and learning standards by building their capacity and sharing good practices. The school will promote peace and cohesion amongst the communities, and produce well-rounded young girls who will become a beacon for their community.
