Dear friend of Go Girl,
We have slowly started our collaborative project in 5 countries. Indonesia, India, Kenya, Cameroon and Ghana. As a team we are learning from eachother which in turn helps our local interventions. This we feel is something to be quite proud of! Please see below some updates from the seperate projects.
Indonesia
The Go Girl project was kicked off at Bandung City involving around 20s youths, 4 IndoCompetence team members and two care givers, we found that the youth were enthusiastically sharing their dream of making their parents proud of them. We plan to have regular visits and work together on how to prevent pregnancy among young females. Additionally we want to make them aware on how to access referral system.
India
Being able to go to the community and meet the people gives us a great amount of enthusiasm as it has been a while due to a number of covid constraints; nevertheless, we are grateful that we are now allowed to visit the village more frequently and conduct these visits. Three of us from our team set off with support from the Youth Shalyntem Fellows. These youths assisted us in identifying important stakeholders and guided us to people's homes for visits and they were also a part of it. So far we've spoken with youth, older people, and women from three different communities. This is a new for us to speak and connect with people, making them realize their own strenghts, we've identified great potential from each individual we have interacted with.
Kenya
Greetings from team L'Afrikana. We have 5 champions who have joined the SALT teams and we have 52 families we have visited in their homes now. We plan to go to the chief, some schools, hospital, police, market and motorcycles taxi stages. We want to integrate the whole community in using the SALT approach.
Cameroon
In 8 different communities we are looking to train at least 15 people. Then we will look for 3 champions from nearby communities and redo the process.
Ghana
In Ghana the project has kicked of in the communities of Buduburam and Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District. Girl groups have been created in both communities of 30 girls each which we will support by education, health talks, inspiration and support with their families. In the new year we are looking to move into the communities with the mothers of the girls we are already supporting to find those difficult to reach girls.
We hope for your continued support as we progress with our work.
All the best,
Team Go Girl
