Dear supporters of GlobeMed at UCincinnati,

We are so happy to say that we have had a great fall semester with both new and old friends! Here are some highlights from the past two months that we would like to share with you.

We wired $9,000 to Social Action for Women to fund the Community Health Outreach Project. SAW and ATL, our primary contact, received the payment and are putting it to good use.
We had our first Community Health Speakers Series on Friday, October 19th. Our External GhU committee put this wonderful event together in which we invited three distinguished leaders from Cincinnati: Dr. Chris Lewis, Associate Professor and Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, UC College of Medicine and founder of the Village Life Outreach Project; Dr. Carolette Norwood, Associate Professor of Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies; and Dr. Rosanne Hountz, Associate Professor of Nursing at Xavier University and founder of Josephine's clinic. This interactive talk allowed students to explore social justice and global health topics relevant to the Cincinnati area while applying their GlobeMed knowledge. We hope to make this an annual event because of its success and the enthusiasm students and presenters had!
We are blessed and lucky to have Lydia Stump as our regional chapter advisor this year. She has provided helpful guidance and an ear to listen the past 15 weeks, of which we are very grateful. Thanks Lydia!
We are currently doing our annual Individual Giving campaign. Please consider donating to our cause to help Social Action for Women. We are aiming to raise $11,000 this coming year to fund the Community Health Outreach Project, and GlobalGiving is the best way for you to stay updated on our project as well as make a tax-deductible donation.
Finally, on Friday, November 30th, we are having our HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on campus. We will be holding activities to raise awareness of populations living with HIV/AIDS, help students learn about sexual health, and talk to new faces. If you are on campus, please stop by Main Street between 10am and 3pm to come visit.

Again, we thank you all for your continued support, and we are looking forward to updating you on the results of our Individual Giving campaign, benefit dinner in the spring, and Summit in March.

Informational for new members

Dear supporters of GlobeMed at UCincinnati,

We're very excited to be starting fall semester 2018 for another great year of GlobeMed at UCincinnati! As mentioned in our previous report, we have continued to focus on our efforts to strengthen our recruitment efforts, build a tight-knit community within our chapter and with SAW, create a comprehensive outreach strategy, and improve our capacity building for future chapters of GlobeMed at UC.

We have kept our commitment to strengthening our recruitment, as we have attended more recruitment events on campus than ever to find engaged, young activists to join our chapter. We attended the Student Organization Fair as usual, where we reach the most students. However, we were interested in reaching out to more students of diverse backgrounds, both in terms of academic disciplines as well as race and ethnicity. Additionally, we attended the Asian American Student Welcome, Akwaaba (the black student welcome), and the Latino Student Welcome. In a few weeks, we will be tabling in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), the College Conservatory of Music (CCM), the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH), and the Lindner College of Business. We also hope to engage more social work and sociology students. It is our hope that having a diverse student body will broaden our range of thought and expertise to better work with UC, the Cincinnati community, GlobeMed's various chapters, and Social Action for Children and Women.

Additionally, we are in the works of creating a more comprehensive outreach strategy. More details to come soon, but we are working to reach out to local businesses involved in global health partnerships, regional high school students interested in health equity, local political leaders, UC faculty with backgrounds in domestic and international health research, and various graduate and undergraduate organizations on campus that are working to advocate for marginalized populations.

Finally, although the year has just started, we are working to improve our capacity building for future chapters of GlobeMed at UC. Our E-Board this year is one of the most engaged, motivated, and experienced group of students yet. We are ecstatic to work together to improve sustainability and promote new directions for our chapter in years to come. This is being accomplished through improved documentation of practices, organization of files, and transparency among committees. We are also having an ongoing conversation about the direction of our partnership with Social Action for Children and Women in the next few years.

Through this next year, we will share more about our accomplishments and goals to build a tight-knit community within our chapter and with SAW. In our next report, look forward to more updates as our chapter for the 2018-19 school year blossoms.

GlobeMed at UC, June 2018 Report

Dear supporters of GlobeMed at UC,

We are excited to share our updates with you as our spring semester at the University of Cincinnati has ended, and summer semester has begun. Even though we as a chapter are going through another transition from one academic year to the next, our partner Social Action for Women (SAW) continues to thrive on its track to better the lives of Burmese migrants on the Thai-Burma border.

First off, you are hearing from some new voices! As our outgoing co-presidents Jayla Burton and Mckenzie Ackemyer have graduated, Anna Layman and I are grateful and excited to take on the responsibility of co-presidency for the 2018-2019 year. As GlobeMed members since the fall of 2015, we are both so thankful to have seen GlobeMed at UC grow over the past three years, and we are enthusiastic to grow with it in our final months with GlobeMed and SAW. Going into the rest of the summer and the fall, we hope to strengthen our recruitment efforts, build a tight-knit community within our chapter and with SAW, create a comprehensive outreach strategy, and improve our capacity building for future chapters of GlobeMed at UC. We humbly ask for your support throughout the next several months as our chapter and partnership continue to grow.

Speaking of growing, our GROW team of five chapter members is currently working alongside Social Action for Women in Mae Sot during May and June. Their two main projects are producing a collective autoethnography to capture their experiences that can be shared with our larger campus community and supporters like you. They are also hoping to improve SAW’s ability to attract sponsorship from other large sources of funding by producing a promotional video with material captured by past and current GROW teams. We are so excited to see and share what they create. If you would like to follow their journey in real time, follow them on Snapchat at ucgrow2k18.

Back in the States, we have been continuing to organize fundraising efforts over the summer. As our new E-Board for the 2018-2019 year has been selected, each leader has been brainstorming new ways of advocating for our partner, educating our community, and learning from others. We will also be further reflecting on our 5th Annual Benefit Dinner, held on March 23rd, 2018. As many of you know, we were very successful in our efforts to raise money for SAW, as we grossed over $9000 thanks to your generous support. We hope to culminate our thoughts and reflections as well as strengthen friendships in our E-Board retreat in July.
