Spring+Winter Update 2014-15

By Rhea Eubanks | Campaigns Director

Dear Friends,

We are happy to update you about what we, the GlobeMed chapter at Washington University in St. Louis, have accomplished so far this year to help support or partners at Ugandan Development and Health Associates (UDHA) in Uganda. In our previous report, we mentioned a couple of fundraising events that we had planned for the 2014-15 academic school year. One was the Family and Friends Golf Outing and the other large fundraiser was Go! St. Louis Marathon. Unfotunately, we were not able to do the Golf Outing this semester. However, we replaced it with the very successful Snugly and Ugly Sweater Sale fundraiser. This fundraiser was held after Thanksgiving break. We primary used Facebook as our medium of advertising which allowed us to reach over one thousand people at our school in which more than 500 said they would attend our event. We sold around 90 holiday sweaters in which resulted in about $800 profit. We also had an apple and pumpkin pie sale during the fall semester which was very successful as well. Lastly, we sold a Kaplan MCAT Course for $1400 this semester as well.

This upcoming Spring semester we plan on having three large fundraiser; Go St. Louis Marathon, Bananas, and Individual Giving. GlobeMed is one of the official sponsors for Go! St. Louis which is a marathon, half-marathon, and 5K race that raises money for various charities. We plan to recruit runners to fundraise for us as their cause for running the marathon. You can check out the Facebook link for this event HERE. 'Bananas' is another great fundraiser that we do every year in which we sell choclate covered frozen bananas to students, faculty, and staff as well as the greater St. Louis community during the Carnival fair. Lastly, individual giving is one of our most profitable fundraisers in which we ask our members to reach out to their friends and family to ask for donations and contributions towards GlobeMed. In addition to these three big programs, we also plan on doing smaller fundraising events like a few benefit nights at restuarants near WashU's campus and cupcakes sales. We held a Valentine's Day Cupcakes sale and did an Insomnia's cookies fundraiser that raised a couple hundred dollars. Finally, we are also selling two more Kaplan MCAT courses for a total of $2800.

We are very excited to see what this spring semester has instore for our GlobeMed Chapter. We are very grateful and thankful for your past support and without your generosity, we would not be able to do the accomplish our goals for our partner. If you would like to support us again this year as we fight to help our partners make real differences in their communities, please find out how on our new website:http://washu9.wix.com/globemedatwashu.
