Program Update – Learning Climate Change (Oct 13)
By Angel Chitrakar - Sr. Program Officer
“In our curriculum, Science subject provides theoretical knowledge to our students. We as a teacher for Science subject are challenged to provide an in-depth knowledge about the topics and contents to our students. As theoretical based education, the learning’s of students are limited to some extent. Hence, we are trying to facilitate students learning through integrating more and more experimental and practical activities which help them to understand and remember the topics and contents. This program supported us a lot to help students understand different topics of science as it required active involvement of students through hands-on activities for data collection on different environmental parameters like water, atmosphere and soil science. I personally found that the students are much more active than they were in previous days. They are much more curious to learn about environment as well as seek answers to various questions about different environmental problems and its consequences.” – Mr. Shyam Kumar Maharjan, Teacher, Harisidhi Secondary School
With the increasing population and human intervention in our local environment, there is no thought that our environment is changing. Hence, through this program, we aim to aware our students on different environmental issues and changes that are occurring in our surrounding through teaching them about various parameters of our environment like atmosphere, hydrology, soil science etc.
At the moment, we have initiated implementation of this program in 4 different schools. A training program for students and teachers of these four schools were organized at Harisidhi Higher Secondary School in the month of July. As all four schools selected were located in such a way that they are aligned nearby the river, study on different hydrological parameters was mainly focussed in this training program. Students seemed very much energetic while conducting experiment in hydrological parameters like testing Ph, Turbidity, Conductivity etc. After 6 months from the data collection date, a sharing workshop is planned among all the four schools. This will help the students to analyze the data and discuss the reasons behind the changes in data in particular parameters.
We would like to thank you for your support and believing & supporting us in our campaign. Because of YOU, we have been able to bring changes in the learning techniques and education of students. Furthermore, we would like to request you to share the information of our project within your friends and families network in order to receive continuous support for funding the program in other schools.
We hope for the same type of support in the days to come ahead. To get updates regularly regarding our activities, we would like to request you to like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter to get our tweets. We are also looking forward towards your valuable suggestions and comments regarding our works as well.
Thanks & regards
Angel Chitrakar
