Global Sorority is currently in Cape Town South Africa delivering Leadership education to a group of young women in the Lwandle township, As well as offering support to the Heldeberg rape crisis center. This center administers mental, emotional and medical support to the Summerset community and surrounding townships. They help women, men and children, including babies as young as 5 months of age, with antiretroviral medication, emergency care, therapy and continued support, food and transportation as well as safe housing for women. We have done intensive interviews the last few days with survivors of sexual violence and will be sharing some of those stories in the next Global Sorority film series of the empowering journey they've taken towards healing.
This trip is a little different from some of our other international trips because we have allowed 8 young female university students from North America to join us. They have all taken our Elements of Success Leadership training and are getting the experience of helping to facilitate the workshops to other young women in the township. It has been an amazing testament to sisterhood and how young women can come together and make a positive difference in each-others lives and the lives of girls around the world.
Our South African group of young women have shown great courage showing up each day, and pouring their hearts and energies into their leadership education. They have already decided that on the upcoming African Youth Day they will take to the township square and share what they have learned over the passed weeks. When you give women resources and education, they will naturally take what they have learned and share it with everyone in their community. Because of this the ripple effect of our programs and awareness campaigns reach far and wide, and effect many more lives than the handful of participants that get to attend an actual workshop.
Ruth the townships rape councilor and group coordinator will be given resources and training to continue to support young women with the Elements of Success training in Cape Town. This creates a continued connection to our organization and sustainability for the work that we bring into a community.
