Summary

Right now, 345 million people around the world are facing acute food insecurity. Among the hardest hit are 22 million people in the Horn of Africa - Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. The worst drought in over 40 years, combined with grain shortages from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, has resulted in a growing humanitarian crisis unfolding before our eyes. The land is bone dry. Livestock are dying. Crops are failing.

Challenge

The worst drought in 40 years, exacerbated by climate change, has left lands bone dry. Crops can't grow and livestock are dying. This has added yet another layer of immense pressure to people who have been going through other emergencies - including COVID-19 and the rise of food prices, caused by the conflict in Ukraine. Food crises have emerged time and again in the Horn of Africa, but the current hunger crisis in the region is exceptional and is expected to be the worst in decades.

Solution

Donations to the Global Hunger Crisis Appeal will help provide emergency assistance for people around the globe who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity. That support may include: Humanitarian assistance to people experiencing hunger and food insecurity - including food, health, water and sanitation, cash and voucher assistance Specialist aid workers to assist local teams to respond to the crisis Program support and monitoring and evaluation costs of the assistance provided

Long-Term Impact

Food crises in the Horn of Africa are not new, but today, these countries are heading for catastrophe. Some 22 million people in the Horn of Africa are in the clutches of starvation. If the international community wants to be serious about saving lives, we must have collective mobilisation and action - both in the immediate and long-term. The problem is getting worse every day. We urgently need your support to get help into the hands of local people.
