GlobalGirl Media continues to maintain programs in South Africa, Morocco, Kosovo, London, Chicago, Los Angeles. and Oakland. Since trainings were consolidated last year to concentrate on our nationwide #GIRLSGOVERN program that puts girls at the center of political discourse, we are focused on increasing our trainings in California this year. All our overseas programs are now run independently with oversight and input from GGM International and Central operations. We have also streamlined communications with these franchises and will be launching an International Advisory Board, whose membership consists of representatives from each chapter who will meet quarterly to update each other on key issues.
At the beginning of the new year, we embarked upon a special project: producing #MARCHING FORWARD video with The Representation Project to commemorate Women’s March and global girl reporters covered the Women’s Marches in DC and LA. Amie, our Executive Director, travelled to London and received the With And For Girls Award from the Stars Foundation (we were selected out of 97 global organizations to receive this award), which comes with $50K.
After six years in operation, we are now at a critical juncture where the stakeholders need to chart a firm course for the next several years. We've built a global brand in five countries with over 380 girls trained and 400+ pieces of media, received many awards and many graduates of our program are pursuing higher education in media. Now, we are concentrating on structural issues within our organization to help us expand and grow even stronger. As such, we are seeking to expand and continue doing so by establishing new franchises based on our new model of partnership and collaboration with partners in Tunisia, Lebanon, Cuba, India, Columbia, Scandinavia, West Africa, Connecticut, and Atlanta, plus new staff activity and training opportunities.
Our overall 2017 goal is to train 500 girls worldwide and produce 200 pieces of media, blogs and videos.
