LOS ANGELES: GGM LA recently wrapped a webisode series on Food Justice in Los Angeles. Following our Summer New Media Academy, 11 GlobalGirls worked tirelessly to produce a six-part video project that explores issues ranging from food deserts to obesity, community gardens and food trucks.
Check out one of our segments on "food apartheid" and what people do as more grocery stores close down in their neighborhood. Watch it HERE.
Congratulations to the 2013 GGM LA New Media Academy Graduates! Way to go, GlobalGirls!
CHICAGO: GGM Chicago also graduated a new cohort of GlobalGirls! This group produced a six-part webisode series focused on the economic disparity in Chicago, and creative ways of overcoming urban blight in the city. This series, titled "The Two Chicagos," profiles community-based leaders in housing, health and education. It is told through the personal experience of teen-age girls from South and West Chicago.
Congratulations to the 2013 GGM Chicago New Media Academy Graduates! We're so proud of you, GlobalGirls!
MOROCCO: GlobalGirls in Morocco have been especially busy this summer! The girls completed documentaries on sexual harrassment and another on high school dropout rates, both funded by USAID/ITQANE as a part of their Youth Speak project. This project is a research initiative designed to explore the thoughts and emotions of youth and their thoughts on their future.
Under Project Director Maureen Sieh, 10 GlobalGirls produced five short videos and a 20-minute documentary about the process that started this in 2012.
