Los Angeles: Revving up to begin another year of training. Two girls began college this semester. One of our GlobalGirls in college spoke at this year's TedxWomen's Conference in San Diego. Additionally, the girls covered the Anti-Walmart protest on Black Friday.
South Africa: Secured an Open Society Institute Grant for an intensive editing course in Soweto. The World Bank hired GGM Team in South Africa to cover its latest Conference there on Open Contracting. Also, two reporter from GGM South Africa received one year fellowships to attend the Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking.
Morocco: Completed our second year of training, adding an additional 12 young women to our news bureau, where 24 GGM Reporters now cover six cities nationwide. GGM Morocco was selected by USAID to produce a documentary on education and drop-out rates in rural areas.
Chicago: Launched our newest project with 15 new young women from South and Westside Chicago, securing significant new funders from McCormick Foundation and the Eileen Fisher Foundation. Launched a new Mentorship Program and created an Advisory Board with leading women in media, including Laura Washington, ABC-7 News Anchor and Columnist, Chicago Sun-Times, Elizabeth Taylor, Editor, Book Review, Chicago Tribune, and Michelle Weldon, Prof. Medill School of Journalism. GGM Chicago produced several blogs and four videos on the following topics: bullying, violence in Chicago, sustainability and Election 2012.
