Glenwood Academy is a residential boarding school, located south of Chicago, that nurtures and educates at-risk and disadvantaged students. More than 50% of our population comes from underserved and marginalized communities that struggle with gangs, drugs and violence. This project, Supply Our Students, will help fund 20 students with education and extracurricular school supplies for one full school year.
Glenwood Academy is greater Chicago's only boarding school that offers a safe, nurturing environment for disadvantaged children. Willing and able to learn but constrained by difficult social and economic situations, each year approximately 150 of these children come to Glenwood to live and learn - both in and out of the classroom. Here, young minds are challenged, character built, family relationships strengthened, and potential is attained.
Supply Our Students will provide 20 students with their necessary education and extracurricular activity supplies for one full school year. Our extracurricular activities include band, drama club, music, art and KidShop, a mixed media art class unique to Glenwood.
Most of our students come from underserved and marginalized communities surrounding Chicago. Gangs, drugs and violence are part of their everyday life. By attending Glenwood, we assist the family unit by reinforcing a strong, healthy family environment and removing students from potentially dangerous situations. This helps provide enrichment and leadership activities they would not otherwise have access to.
