Big news - GLAAD has launched an exciting new program!
It's called Southern Stories, and it's designed to accelerate LGBT acceptance in the American South, where cultural acceptance is lagging behind. As the LGBT community makes advances in policy throughout the U.S., it's critical that we advance culture as well, and that we don't leave anyone behind - no mater where they live.
Here's a story of a recent victory in South Carolina, one of the states in our Southern Stories program.
"When the mayor of my town fired me as police chief just because I'm a lesbian, GLAAD who helped me tell my story to the nation, amplify it in the media, and change hearts and minds. Thanks to my work with GLAAD, my story has a happy ending. The people of my town rallied around me and hired me back to do the job I love.
But it's heartbreaking that so many LGBT people still face difficult and sometimes impossible odds to live their lives authentically. We need LGBT people in towns all across America, and the world, to feel loved and supported."
- Crystal Moore, Latta, SC
That's exactly why GLAAD is doing culture-changing work everywhere that it's needed - including hard-to-reach areas in the South. In the march towards acceptance, we can't leave anyone behind.
Thank you for being a GLAADiator.
