Giving Hope in Hawaii
In the wake of the devastating wildfires that swept through Maui in August 2023, SmartAID stepped in to support the Hawaiian community with a vision for long-term resilience and sustainability.
Working closely with local partners and the community, we installed sustainable energy solutions in community centers, shelters, and hotspots to provide power to those without access to the grid. These efforts ensured that even in the most challenging times, essential services remained operational.
We also conducted disaster preparedness training to educate residents on emergency response, first aid, and preparedness, fostering a culture of readiness and resilience in the face of future wildfires.
According to an October report from the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization (UHERO), the poverty rate among survivors has more than doubled since the wildfire, highlighting the urgent need for continued support and intervention.
Our ongoing efforts in Maui include working closely with the local community to find solutions to ongoing challenges, such as securing better job opportunities. This includes initiatives to develop new small businesses in collaboration with our corporate technology partners.
By empowering the community with sustainable solutions, SmartAID is helping to create a stronger, more resilient Maui, Hawaii.
